Used to be, if you wanted food delivered to you at home or your office, your only decision was which pizza joint to call. Minneapolis had a dearth in food delivery options, and frankly, that’s quite sad.
Well, wipe the tears away because there is a food delivery revolution taking place in our fine city, and it comes to you via eco-friendly Prius cars, conscientious delivery guys and gals, and a company obsessed with delivering impeccable customer service along with the delicious restaurant food they bring to your door.
Yes, this food delivery revolution comes to you via Bite Squad.
Perhaps you’ve seen the white cars wrapped in the green and white Bite Squad logo on the streets of Minneapolis. And if you haven’t, chances are you will soon.
Locally owned and operated Bite Squad launched their service in August, 2012 to fill a niche – deliver great restaurant food to people who want to eat in but don’t want to run to the restaurant themselves to pick up their order. In the short time they’ve been around, they’ve already partnered with about 60 Minneapolis restaurants – everything from Indian to Greek, Mexican to Thai – and that list is growing every week.
Here is how the service works. You go to the Bite Squad website, enter your address and choose from one of the many restaurants that come up. Any Bite Squad restaurant partner within seven miles of your location is an option. You pick your items, determine if you want it at a specific time or ASAP, and check out. Easy-peasy. And, you pay the same price for the items as you would if you were sitting in the restaurant. The only additional charge is the Bite Squad delivery fee, which is dependent on the restaurant’s minimum order requirement. For instance, the delivery fee is $3.99 for a minimum order of $15.
It really is a beautiful thing, but the guys at Bite Squad will tell you that above the awesome service they are bringing to the city, they are really proud of the technology that is driving the whole thing. And it is pretty impressive.
The website is clean and intuitive. The menus from every partner restaurant feature not only the basic information, but also Yelp reviews and popular dishes. There also are pictures for every single menu item so you can see what you are getting.
All this technology is designed to help deliver the best user experience for you. Once you place your order, it gets sent over to the restaurant, which accepts or denies the order (reason for denying include being out of the dish or ingredients to make a certain dish). Once an order is accepted, the restaurant estimates to Bite Squad the time for them to pick up, and Bite Squad communicates the delivery time back to you. The drivers (who are all Bite Squad employees, by the way) are uber-aware of the delivery time, and you can track their progress on the Bite Squad website.
Right now, the Bite Squad service is limited to Minneapolis, but for you folks across the river, don’t despair. They are working on expanding service to St. Paul soon. And also coming in the first quarter of 2013 is the ability of you to enjoy a real-time tracking system where you can watch your order as a blinking dot from ordering to delivery.
The Bite Squad gang wants you to try their service so they are offering Minneapolis Happening readers and first-time customers $10 off their order! All you need to do is enter the coupon code Happenings at check out (good for delivery only).
So, next time you want a restaurant dinner without the restaurant, give Bite Squad a try. And let us know what you ordered. We love hearing from our readers!
