Minneapolis is the 3rd Healthiest Happiest City in the U.S.

StoneArchIt seems that Minneapolis has appeared on another list, this time by Prevention Magazine, which rated the Top 25 Healthiest Happiest Cities in the U.S.

The top two positions went to San Jose, CA, and Salt Lake City, UT respectively, with Minneapolis-St Paul landing in the number three spot.  Rounding out the top five are Anaheim, CA and San Diego, CA.

To determine the winners, Prevention painstakingly evaluated 100 of the nation’s largest cities on 48 measures of health, happiness and well-being. This includes everything from access to green space and concert halls to the number of farmers markets and residents’ inclination to eat five fruits and veggies a day. The magazine also accounted for  the grim: disease incidence, depression measures, unemployment rates, and even FBI crime statistics.

So what caught their eye about the Twin Cities?

Says Prevention,  “The Twin Cities have spent decades boosting residents’ heart health by making the area more bikeable and offering cholesterol and blood pressure screenings to everyone. We were also impressed that people here all seem to understand that food is medicine for the heart. Of our top cities, it has the highest per capita number of farmers markets and among the highest access to fresh produce.”

Perhaps our extreme weather kept us from being in the number one position?
