Minneapolis to Me – Anthony Ongaro

Minneapolis to Me (MtM) is a weekly segment where we feature someone with a connection to Minneapolis. Our goal with this is you to introduce you to people you may otherwise not get the pleasure to know, and hopefully learn an interesting nugget or two.

This week, meet Anthony Ongaro!

Where do you live?
I live in southeast Minneapolis near the Riverview Theater.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan but moved to Minneapolis in 2009.

What do you do for a living?
Since 2013, I’ve been the Marketing Director at Nice Ride Minnesota, the Twin Cities bike sharing system. I also write a blog about minimalism and intentional living called Break the Twitch.

Where is your favorite place to go in the Twin Cities and why?
Due to its proximity, I end up at the Riverview Cafe a lot. My wife and I are big foodies so we love trying new places all over the cities. #503 at Quang’s Restaurant on Eat Street is a personal favorite.

I climb at Vertical Endeavors on Nicollet, which is conveniently also near Glam Doll Donuts which has unique and great donuts as well. Seward Coop for groceries. Lastly, anywhere with a bike rack out front.

Sorry, I couldn’t just pick one.

What do you love most of the city?
I love the bike culture in Minneapolis – it’s why we chose to buy a house here and live here long term. The warm season here makes the long winters worth it.

Winters in Minneapolis – yay or nay?
They make the summers better.

When you leave town, what do you look forward to most when you come home?
I always enjoy coming back home after a long trip – for no reason in particular other than being back and comfortable at home.

What’s a little known fact about you?
I used to sing in a barbershop quartet in college!
