Furry Friends, Forever Homes

Are you ready to meet a great Great Dane? This is Smith!

Smith is about four-years-old and was recently surrendered to the Great Dane Rescue of MN & WI. It was a very difficult decision for his family to make.

Smith spent the first several years of his life with his family in a rural area with lots of room to roam. But, then they moved into the city and they quickly realized that it wasn’t the most ideal situation for the guy. And although they love him very much, they knew the best thing for him – and them – was to give him up so another family would find him and love him.

At first, it was very hard for Smith. He would simply stand at the door of his foster home for days and await his family’s return. Lucky for him, he has a very sweet and very patient foster mom who helped him adjust, and now Smith is doing great.

One of his favorite things to do is snuggle with his people. And, if you let him, he loves to snuggle in bed. In fact, he oftentimes waits for his foster mom to fall asleep and then gingerly crawls on to the bed next to her without waking her up. That is no small feat!

Smith is very much a guard dog, as you can expect. He guards his house, yard, food (only from other animals) and his people. As such, he will need a forever home that has an experienced owner. He really needs someone who can read his body language and correct his unnecessary guarding behaviors in a way that teaches him what he needs to do.

Smith is currently recovering from Gastric Dilatation Volvulus, also known as Bloat. It happened on New Year’s Eve, and thankfully his foster mom recognized the signs right away and got him into emergency surgery that literally saved his life. Because it was caught so early, there was no tissue damage and he is recovering very well.

Now that he has that behind him, Smith is hoping to find a new forever family that will love him just as much as his previous family did. And really, who couldn’t love this gentle giant, especially when he rests his head on your chest and gazes at you with his beautiful, chocolate-brown eyes?

Please keep sweet Smith in mind if you or anyone you know are looking to add an amazing four-legged friend to the family. For more information about Smith and to arrange a time to meet him, please contact the Great Dane Rescue of MN & WI.

About Great Dane Rescue of Minnesota

Great Dane Rescue of Minnesota (GDROMN)  is a volunteer based group of individuals with a common goal to help with the health and welfare of unwanted Great Danes. Their mission is to identify Great Danes in need of rescue and re-homing, transport these dogs to approved foster homes, foster these dogs until appropriate homes are found for them, and place these dogs in appropriate homes. They also educate the public about the temperament and special food and health concerns of Danes, the need for spay and neuter and the benefits of micro chipping their dogs and cats. About Pause 4 Paws

Pause 4 Paws raises funds for 18 animal rescue organizations that have little time to raise money on their own because they are in the trenches doing the difficult work, day and night. The focus of Pause 4 Paws is to help these organizations with their life-saving efforts. The individuals who work for the 18 organizations that Pause 4 Paws financially supports are tireless in their efforts to rescue animals by providing medical care and finding forever homes for dogs and cats in need. In 2012, these 18 organizations rescued over 5,500 dogs and cats, and they vaccinated, spayed and neutered an additional 5,300. That is almost 11,000 animals!
