If you are looking for a holiday tradition that you can do from the comfort of your car, consider driving over to Phalen Park in St. Paul for the ninth edition of Holiday Lights in the Park.
An initiative by the Saint Paul Police Foundation since 2008, Holiday Lights in the Park is the Midwest’s largest holiday light display, and those lights will be illuminated through January 1, 2017.
Through Holiday Lights, the Saint Paul Police Foundation raises money to make the St. Paul area safer for both citizens and law enforcement. Funds raised support community engagement efforts, safety equipment and department outreach.
In the past seven years, the initiative has raised nearly $420,000 for a variety of local nonprofit organizations, and since the Foundation’s inception in 2005, it has raised nearly $5 million, which goes to support numerous SPPD programs.
Visitors to the Holiday Lights tour the 60-plus displays from the warmth of their vehicle, making weather a non-factor. And do we love our lights! More than 20,000 cars have visited Holiday Lights in the Park in each of its eight previous seasons making it the area’s largest nightly holiday celebration.
This year, Holiday Lights will open at 5:00 pm, a half-hour earlier, to allow even more visitors to see the impressive displays. In addition, guests can purchase tickets online this year at a $2 discount from the $10 per vehicle charge at Phalen Park.
