Friday, June 10 – A Spike Lee Joint
Trylon Microcinema, 3528 Minnehaha Ave., Minneapolis
If you are a Spike Lee fan, you are in for a treat on weekends in June at the Trylon. He has a unique perspective on black-white relations and looks at them with honesty and humor. Many of his movies are personal and thoughtful, and the Trylon is showing five from his early days.
On Friday (and Saturday and Sunday of this weekend), you can see two Spike Lee Joints. Mo’ Better Blues is playing on Friday at 7:00 pm, Saturday at 9:30 pm and Sunday at 5:00 pm. Jungle Fever is playing on Friday at 9:30 pm, Saturday at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 7:30 pm.

Saturday, June 11 – World War Brick
Brickmania Toyworks, 1620 Central Ave., NE., Minneapolis
World War Brick is more than a group of history and LEGO enthusiasts. It’s a group of hobbyists dedicated to making historical and military-related scenes entirely out of LEGO brand bricks. And, you an see it their work in action this weekend at Brickmania Toyworks, which (appropriately enough) is housed in a a former WW2-era armaments factory in Northeast Minneapolis.
This is your chance to see some amazing LEGO art! The public exhibition hours are 10:00 am until 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or online (if you buy them online, you can gain entry 30 minutes early). And by the way, the entrance to Brickmania is on 18th Ave, which is the north side of building, next to the giant building blocks. Parking behind the building is free. Sunday, June 12 – Minnesota Pet Expo
Minneapolis Convention Center, 1301 2nd Ave. S., Minneapolis
The Minnesota Pet Expo is a two-day pet extravaganza and lots of fun for you and your four-legged (and two-legged) friends! It’s a free event that is happening both Saturday and Sunday, and it is jam-packed with lots of events and activities.
Some of the things you can expect include an agility demonstration, pet talent show and a costume parade. Plus, there will be educational sessions, and lots of samples from lots of vendors for your pets. And be sure to bring your dog or cat so he or she can enjoy a spa treatment from local groomers and check out the latest in pet fashion.
Plus, if you are looking for a furry friend to bring into the family, you are in luck. Adoptable pets from local rescue organizations will be on hand, and who knows, maybe you’ll leave with an adorable addition to the family!
