Pick 3 Weekend Events May 27 – 30

Pick 3 Weekend EventsYes, it’s Memorial Day Weekend, and we recently published a 2016 Memorial Day Weekend Guide. But we know you; we know you are always looking for more to do.

And so we want to deliver.

In our Pick 3 Events, we have the opening of a controversial movie, Prince, and a block party that includes bowling and volleyball. Enjoy!

Friday, May 27 – Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe
Landmark Uptown Theater, 2906 Hennepin Ave S., Minneapolis

It’s a touchy, controversial subject and now it is the subject of a documentary about a potential cover-up by the CDC of its flawed safety study of the ubiquitous MMR vaccine, as told by a whistle-blower inside the organization. Vaxxed: From Cove-Up to Catastrophe opens at the Uptown Theater on Friday.

Vaxxed investigates how the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) concealed and destroyed data on their 2004 study that showed a link between the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine and autism. The information was revealed by a Senior Scientist at the CDC, William Thompson, who shared the information to Dr. Brian Hooker.

Saturday, May 28 – The Music of Prince, Live!
Bunker’s Music Bar & Grill, 761 Washington Ave. N., Minneapolis

While it’s true that next weekend is the big “Prince Tribute Weekend,” you can’t deny lining up at the door when the only Prince-sanctioned tribute band is playing, regardless of the date. And so, you can be amongst the first to wish our beloved Prince an early Happy Birthday when Chase & Ovation take the stage at Bunker’s on Saturday.

And wouldn’t you know it; this night happens to be Chase & Ovation’s own Big Sy’s birthday. Two great reasons to be there (as if you needed them).

Tickets are $10 at the door. And speaking of doors, they open at 8:00 pm. Music begins at 9:30 pm.

Sunday, May 29 – Memory Lanes Block Party
Memory Lanes, 2520 26th Ave. S., Minneapolis

It’s time once again for the Memory Lanes Annual Block Party…in fact, this year marks the 8th annual block party, and it’s not to be missed. Taking place over two days (Saturday and Sunday), each day will feature excellent live music, amazing DJs, awesome food and delicious drinks.

Each day, gates open at 3:00 pm with live music outside throughout the afternoon and evening. Sometime in the late 9:00 pm hour, live music will move inside and continue until the wee hours.

And, if you want to get your bowling on or partake in some volleyball, you can do that, too.

The fun is for all ages from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm; then it’s 21+. There is a $5 admission fee each day, although it’s free after 10:00 pm. For the full run-down of performers, please click here.

Monday is Memorial Day. We hope you have a chance to relax and spend time with friends and family. Of course, let us not forget the reason the holiday exists; to remember those who died in the armed forces, providing the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. And to those active military personnel and veterans out there, thank you for your service!
